VW’s August 2016 Sales Down; Audi’s Up
VWoA’s August 2016 U.S. sales lagged last year’s pre-scandal pace. Deliveries were off 9.2% (29,384 vs. 32,332). Golf and Sportwagen models, popular with diesel buyers, declined more than 2,000 units. VW’s compact crossover Tiguan and hot-hatch GTI posted gains. The former was up 4.3% at 3,302; the latter up 9.1% at 2,081. Jetta sales beat last year’s figures. For the year, VW sales slid 12.99% from 238,074 in 2015 to 207,156.
At Audi, the new A4 and compact crossover Q3 lifted the quad-ring brand to its 68th straight monthly sales record. Audi delivered 19,264 vehicles.

Prevent, an ironically named producer of seat covers and transmission cases, shut down its output of parts for VW due to the way the German carmaker treated the firm.
