Atlas: VW’s Tennessee-Built Crossover NameVW’s longtime coming American-made midsize crossover’s breaks from the firm’s T-based tongue-twisting tradition: it’s called the Atlas. VW began recruiting 1000 production workers to build the seventh-generation Golf-based Atlas in Chattanooga last month. VW’s Scott Wilson says further Atlas details should arrive later this month. VW/Audi Recalls 334,000 Vehicles Due to Fuel LeaksFuel Leaks led VW/Audi to recall several vehicles: Audi models--the 2009-12 Q5, 2007-12 Q7, 2012-13 A6/A7, and 2015-16 A3; VW models—the 2015-16 VW Golf/SportWagen/GTI. No U.S. VW Diesels for 2017VW/Audi hasn’t certified its TDI models for the 2017 model year. That’s a sign that VW will go yet another year without offering its one-time popular diesel vehicles. Only 3,219 diesel cars have been sold in the U.S. during 2016 says Automotive News. Last year that number was 62,445—most of them European models. Meanwhile, GM plans to snap up disaffected VW TDI owners with new diesel versions of its Chevy Cruze and Equinox.
