Nov. 23, 2016: VW brand chief Herbert Diess told Handelblatt that after months of study VW will no longer offer TDI Golfs, Jettas, Beetles, Passats and Touaregs in the U.S. Audi and Porsche might sell V-6 diesels, however.Earlier this year, VW’s U.S. chief Hinrich Woebcken hinted that TDI models might return for 2017. Diesel enthusiasts, therefore, expected VW to resume offering its thrifty-yet-potent TDIs... Diess’s words represent a complete shift away from an engine type that comprised roughly 25% of its U.S. sales.
