April 23, 2019: Let’s call it a hit. VW’s Tarok compact unibody go-anywhere concept packs more versatility than a Leatherman tool. Its LED exterior illumination outshines a Maglite flashlight, too. This vehicle, which debuted last year in Sao Paolo, has a folding rear lower passenger compartment, as did the large, now-departed Chevy Avalanche.
Fold the rear seat forward and the load floor expands at least 25 inches. That permits the compact truck to carry longer cargo than its relatively trim exterior suggests. Due to the Tarok’s think-small shape, it’s easier to park and maneuver in urban climes.
The truck’s short overhangs, 9.6-inch ground clearance and all-wheel-drive provide off road abilities.
VW says it's gauging North American reaction to Tarok. Last year, VW presented a larger Atlas-based Tanoak concept at the New York International Auto Show.
