VW Reports 2.2% Sales Increase for July 2019; Audi Recalls 114,092 Late-Model A4s and A5 Due to Airbag Malfunction
VW sold 31,188 units during July—a year-over-year increase. SUVs were 53% of the mix. Tiguan (8,963; +35%), Jetta (8,086; +17%) and Atlas (7,688; +18) were its volume leaders. Golf family deliveries were up 5% but only 371 Golf hatchback sedans were sold. Passat sales were 628, while VW delivered 2,224 Beetles.
Audi says a front passenger seat cable connection problem could disable airbags on 2017 and 2018 A4 and A5 models. An error message and an airbag light provide warnings when the passenger sensor isn’t working.
