June 10, 2015 VW’s best-selling sedan’s performance version is loaded! Herndon, VA — Volkswagen of America unveiled the sporty 2016 Jetta GLI. With the Golf GTI’s 210-hp turbocharged engine and taut suspension, the GLI continues its budget-BMW tradition with lots of driver gear. The GLI dons a new look: an aggressive front fascia with a honeycomb grille and foglights; underneath the new rear bumper with a diffuser is a pair of chrome-tipped exhaust pipes. All GLI models have 18-inch Mallory alloy wheels. All-season tires are standard; summer performance rubber is optional. Inside: a new infotainment system with a full suite of USB (yes it’s true!) and Car-Net connectivity. The SE version gets LED tail-lights, keyless access with push-button start, Climatronic automatic dual-zone climate control, a sunroof, six-way power driver seat, a rearview camera, front and rear Park Distance Control, Fender audio, rain sensing wipers, auto headlights, and heated seats. The GLI SEL adds Blind Spot Detection with rear traffic alert, a navigation system, Bi-Xenon headlights that swivel (Adaptive Front-lighting System), and Homelink. A new standard feature: Volkswagen’s Automatic Post-Collision Braking system. It applies the brakes when a primary collision is detected by the airbag sensors reducing the chance of additional damage.
