Nov. 23 (Automotive News): The EPA says it’s adding 75,000 additional VW, Audi and Porsche models equipped with 3.0-liter V-6 TDI diesel engines to the 10,000 it identified as containing emissions defeat devices. That boosts the number of vehicles VW must fix from 482,000 to 567,000 the agency reports. VW admits that the EPA’s findings affect 2009-2016 model-year vehicles utilizing its V-6 diesel engine. VW officials say the software involved is not the same as that found on its 2.0-liter TDI engines. VW appointed Dr. Michael Steiner as its new compliance commissioner. He will talk with U.S. and other regulators about the firm’s diesel emissions violations (NOx) and its misstatement of C02 emissions for several European vehicles. Earlier: VW CEO Matthias Mueller told German authorities that the fix for its errant 1.6-liter TDI diesel engine involves a larger catalytic converter and different injection nozzles. Many consider this a sign that future fixes to rectify TDI emissions problems will employ several methods.
