VW Group 2016 Worldwide Sales: VW Reclaims Top Spot, First Half 2016July 27: VW Group’s worldwide sales 5.12 million. This moves VW ahead of Toyota and GM to first place in vehicle sales, during the first six months of 2016. VWoA Appoints Dr. Hendrik Muth Product Marketing Vice PresidentAugust 3: VW of America selected Dr. Hendrik Muth, 42, to oversee product-marketing activities for its current and future vehicle portfolio. He reports to Mark McNabb—VWoA’s COO. Muth, has U.S. ties, he earned his MBA from Temple University. He replaces Joerg Sommer who served in that role since 2013. Sommer replaced the affable Rainer Michel. VW’s July 2016 U.S. Sales Decline 8.12%VW of America’s July 2016 sales tally: 29,754: down 8.12% compared with last year. Through July 2016, VW’s sales were off 13.59%: 177,772 vs. 205,742. In contrast, July 2016 GTI deliveries were the best since 2000 at 2,417 units; the Tiguan was up 48.8% at 3,379 units. Audi of America’s Sales Streak Continues: 67 Months of Record DeliveriesAudi’s Q3 compact crossover, Q7 SUV and A4 sedan posted July 2016 gains. Audi delivered 17,654 vehicles during July 2016 a sales record. Audi’s most popular model is the Q5 at 4,833 units. Second place: the compact A3 at 3,038. Rounding out the top four: the A4 at 2,612 and Q7 at 2,322. For the year, the sportier new Q7 sales are up 63.1%.
