VW Arteon Debut
Feb. 23: VW’s sleek Arteon fastback debuts at Geneva Auto Show. Described as avant-garde, the coupe-like VW offers more interior room and a versatile hatchback. 2017 E-Golf’s Range and Power IncreasedFeb. 22: VW’s 2017 e-Golf range increased (125 miles); horsepower upped (134). Available this spring, VW’s electric Golf gets a new lithium-ion battery with greater energy capacity that bumps range from 83 miles to 125. Acceleration is faster and top speed is higher. VW claims best-in-class EPA fuel economy estimates. VW/Audi 3.0-Liter TDI Deal Gets OK Feb. 15: VW received preliminary approval to pay at least $1.2 billion to fix or buy back nearly 80,000 V-6 diesels in the U.S. that violate emissions rules. Final approval is expected during May 2017. This settlement means potential buybacks of 20,000 VW and Audi vehicles from the 2009-12 model years (Gen 1); eventual repair of 58,000 VW, Audi and Porsche vehicles from the 2013-15 model years (Gen 2). Gen 1 owners have the option of selling back their vehicles, obtaining a fix (if available) and additional cash compensation: $7,755-$13,880. Gen 2 vehicles will be repaired; owner compensation: $7,039-$16,114. Bosch’s Diesel Settlement Moves ForwardFeb. 15: U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer agreed to grant preliminary approval for Bosch’s settlement to pay U.S. VW diesel owners $327.5 million.
