With Dean Martin’s “The Birds and the Bees” as a music bed, VW’s first Atlas TV ad tracks the growth of an American family trekking through a lineup of Volkswagens.

A couple starts, say, their romance in a New Beetle. Several VW’s are shown rocking--hinting procreation is an auto-erotic experience. After each of these “affairs,” our VW couple returns to the dealership. They snatch keys for larger VWs (Jetta, Tiguan) with room for more children.
At the ad’s conclusion, we see a shaking Atlas LUV (Love Utility Vehicle?). A cut to its interior reveals a bounce-house caused by boisterous children, followed by Martin’s words “and a thing called love.” A bit racy, with a PG ending, the ads are the offspring of Deutsch Inc., VW’s ad agency.
