Former VW CEO Martin Winterkorn Indicted by U.S. Federal CourtWinterkorn joins the half-dirty dozen of high-ranking VW officials charged with crimes associated with the firm’s diesel scandal. Court documents claim Winterkorn approved misleading emissions regulators; he’s been charged with conspiracy and wire fraud. This means he’s subject to criminal prosecution says, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions. The indictment alleges that Winterkorn was informed in May 2014 of VW’s malfeasance. He also attended a July 2015 “damage table’ meeting that detailed VW’s cheating. Winterkorn allegedly agreed to continue deceiving regulators. In contrast, VW’s top boss claimed he didn’t know that VW’s diesel-emissions defeat devices until September 2015. Winterkorn, a German citizen, isn’t subject to extradition due to German law.
