SUVs Boost VWoA’s March 2019 Sales; Audi Deliveries Stumble—Its U.S. Chief Resigns U.S. vehicle sales skidded downward 2.3% last month. VW’s Tiguan and its Sign Then Drive promotion, however, helped VW post an 8.7% increase in its YoY March sales—31,309. VW sold 10,539 Tiguans (+38%). Add the Atlas (6,050; +12) and SUVs comprised 53% of the brand’s sales (14,683 cars; 16,626 SUVs). Other notables: Jetta (7,745; +80%), Golf family (3,682; -21%) and Passat (1607; -60%)
Audi’s sales dipped 18% to 15,024. Its Q5 dropped 18% (4,350) and its Q3 ground to a standstill (17; -99%). A new Q3 rolls out soon. Meanwhile, Audi’s U.S. chief Mark Del Rosso resigned.
VW began “pre-series phase” production of its five-seat Cross Sport in Chattanooga.
