VWoA Reports 12% Sept. 2019 Sales Decline
Oct. 1, 2019: VW’s new marketing officer, Werner Eichhorn, says VW of America sold 26,047 vehicles last month, a 12-percent decline. There were fewer sales days during Sept. 2019 vs. Sept. 2018. Its top sellers were the Jetta (8,090; -24%), Tiguan (7,991; +11%) and Atlas (6,064; +41%).
Eichhorn claims SUV sales drive VW’s growth. Its Tiguan and Atlas lure about half of VW car-owning households to buy an SUV-like VW. He says the redesigned Passat and upcoming Cross Sport (two-row version of the Atlas) should give it a boost. Passat sales were down 90% (314 units). In contrast, VW sold 719 Beetle convertibles.
He’s Back: VWoA Hires Former Caddy Chief as COO
VW named Johan de Nysschen, former head of Audi of America and Cadillac, as its chief operating officer. He starts on Oct. 1 reporting to Scott Keogh (also from Audi of America), who is the VW Group of America CEO.
Keogh says “Johan will help make us faster, better and smarter.” VW says the COO role will streamline its executive reporting structure coordinating and aligning its operations in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
