VW’s revamped 2016 American-made Passat’s base price with six-speed automatic: $22,440 plus destination. VW says new content makes it a better value. The 1-8-liter TSI turbocharged direct-injection four-cylinder engine’s highway fuel economy is up two mpg from 2015 at 38. Moving up the product line lets you pick the sport-themed R-Line and popular SE version with optional driver assist features such as adaptive cruise control.
In Germany, VW’s diesel scandal claims yet another top engineer: Frank Tuch, quality control expert, suspended. VW issued a stop-sale order on European vehicles with its EA 189 engine that has emissions defeat software.
