VW Group’s Reaches an Agreement Regarding Overstated Gas Fuel Economy
--Approximately 98,000 VW Group U.S. vehicles get lower fuel economy than VW said.
--VW pays $96.5 million as Settlement to reimburse affected consumers.
August 30, 2019: VW reached a proposed settlement with private plaintiffs regarding software that overstated gas-engine fuel economy.
VW must forfeit greenhouse gas credits and lower fuel economy ratings for some 2013-2017 model-year VW, Porsche and Audi models. VW will reimburse eligible customers $5.40 to $24.30 for each month vehicle owned or leased. That’s $518.40 to $2,332.80 depending of qualifications says one law firm.
Eligible consumers will be notified.
VW Group software caused transmissions to shift gears in a manner that sometimes optimized fuel economy during EPA test cycle but not in normal driving. VW determined its software lowered normal fuel economy by about one mpg.
