VW says 2016-2018 Jetta sedans with 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine (CZTA) could catch fire. Fuel rail bolts can loosen causing leaks. Owners might smell gas. VW is developing a remedy; bolt torque change is expected. VW will send owners recall notices during December 2020.
VW de Mexico’s product safety committee reported first known claim April 2018. A year later, VW assessed risk as low. By January 2020, VW said the root cause and scope of vehicles involved was unknown. On Oct. 14, 2020, VWAG and VW de Mexico issued the recall. Hybrid Jettas built before 2016 also use the 1.4-liter engine. These models aren’t part of this recall notice.
