Two rapidly-deteriorating Club-produced films from the 1950s were recently discovered and converted to digital media. They are poor quality and the sound tracks were obliterated, but the visuals are amusing to watch. One video shows three of our classic events of the day, a rallye, a parking lot gymkhana and a hill climb. In the rallye, you'll see the typical dispute between driver and navigator, each insisting that their route is the correct one. The mini-gymkhana was more a test of driver skill than all-out speed. The hill-climb is - well - just that! The video of our 4th National Convention shows seemingly hundreds of members attending the business meeting in suit and tie! It appears that smoking was considered the norm back then. Old timers may recognize themselves or their friends in these scenes. Also shown is the Awards Banquet including door prize giveaways (note the VW Bus in the background, the Grand Door Prize provided by Volkswagen of America!). The featured speaker at that Convention was a very young-looking Walter Cronkite! To enjoy the films, click here then sign in with e-mail address vwclub@aol.com and password vwca2015.
