VW Displays Golf 4-Motion Alltrack, Chicago Auto Show Press PreviewFeb. 11: With an inch higher ground clearance and all-wheel-drive, the Golf Alltrack promises crossover utility and a car-like driving experience. Darryll Harrison tells the Autoist that people cross-shopping VWs and Subarus will have good reason to consider the VW come this fall. That’s when the 2017 Alltrack arrives. Rear cargo capacity looks just as spacious as the two-wheel drive Sportwagen, this pre-production version has optional spare-tire-well stowage bins. An electro-hydraulic system engages the rear wheel drive setup when wheel slip is detected. This ups fuel economy; it’s front-wheel drive until extra traction is summoned. An electronic differential lock manipulates brakes to improve go power, turn in and steering response. Ted Grady tells the Autoist that the Euro version has a 170-hp 1.8-liter TSI mill utilizing twin fuel injection. The turbo four-cylinder mill sports eight fuel injectors. An optional trailer hitch tucks discretely into the rear bumper. Momo Edition Jetta: Show car sports Italian shows flair with big wheels, impressive brakes and spicy interior.
